Academic Year Proposed Changes

Academic Sessions
As part of ongoing updates we are considering replacing Academic Years and Terms with Academic Sessions. For schools which don't use Terms the only change would be wording. For institutions using terms each Academic Year & Term combination would be used to create a new Academic Session. See the examples below.

Our primary motivation is to allow you to filter students by academic session. This will allow you to see and work with students from an entire academic session at once. We could do something similar with academic years but not with individual terms because students only register for academic years not individual terms.

For the most part Academic Years and Academic Sessions will be identical. We are considering allowing open ended sessions and registration periods (i.e. no start / end dates). Additionally we believe by not tying sessions into years will give institutions some extra flexibility in terms of designing their schedule.

The primary benefit to end users will be the ability to work with all session students at once without the need to create and maintain groups. There is also the added of simplicity of a single sessions as opposed to an academic year and terms.

If we decide to go ahead implementation will be before the end of Jan 2017.

Feedback & Comments
We encourage you to send any feedback and comments you might have to We are looking for any reason this might affect your institution negatively.
